How much time do you waste?

If you are like most self employed Americans, you cut your teeth in the corporate world.  Maybe that was flipping burgers.  But most likely you went into sales or service for some company or another.

You learned a lot there that has benefited you.  Sometimes you draw on the lessons you learned as you work your own business.  Excellent!  We should always be growing, learning, and applying lessons from our pasts.

But you may not realize one skill you learned in the corporate world that could be killing your business.  You learned to waste time.  Did you know that the average American employee wastes 2.09 hours per day at work?   Most of this is probably spent on YouTube or facebook.

Ironically, if you work online, these places are a part of your daily structure.  You go there as a part of your work, but how much time do you waste while you are there working?  Are you really learning are just watching some funny guys dance on a treadmill?

Think about that next time you are are supposed to be “on the clock” and pay attention to what you MIGHT have done instead.

Good thoughts Jared. Any good suggestions on time management, productivity types of tools and aids? I find that its not conscious time wasted that kills me, as much as lack of clear focus and agenda.
