Are you following your dream?
31 March, 2009, 4:48 pm
In the last month I have read seventeen books (sort of) and I have applied for about 23 different jobs. So I haven’t posted much. Well, what have you done?!
Seriously, this search for a pastor’s job is about to kill me. Finishing a masters at the beginning of a recession was a terrible idea. I wish someone had told me that three years ago. I am thinking of keeping the web business up and just starting a church. You see, it’s like this.
I Have a Dream
Not anything profound or world changing like one of my heroes who made the phrase famous, but I do have a dream. I want to be a pastor. That’s right, I said it. I believe the world is not quite right, and I think that God has something to say to folks who are hurting because of it. I want to help with that.
That’s my dream. And so I am going to do whatever it takes to make that happen, if it means working five different jobs while I start a new church. Fortunately, I don’t think it will be THAT bad, but if it is that’s what I will do.
Yes, I say that (and seriously, if you have a group that might want to be involved, let me know, I will go anywhere.)
But what do you hear?
Do you hear some religious nut job who can’t be happy working on his laptop from his home office? Or do you hear a guy who is willing to go to any lengths to accomplish his goal?
What is your dream?
So I ask you fair reader, what is your dream? And how badly do you want it?
Do you want it badly enough to leave the corporate carrot of health insurance and 401k’s?
Do you want it badly enough to sacrifice the new Honda next year?
Do you want it badly enough to believe in yourself and go for it no matter the cost? If you are running after a corporate carrot, you should take the blinders off and look at all the horses that lay behind you dead and bleeding on the track. They were chasing the same carrot, and look how it worked out for them.
Get off the track. Stop waiting, stop crying, stop playing the what if game! Just do it!

Amen, Jared! I left the corporate world a year ago and turned my “on the side” job into a full-time dream job. Did I have to start from scratch with no $$$, yes. But I am happier than I have ever been.
Your dream of being a pastor will be realized sooner than you think. You have passion and determination. And people trust you. Keep the faith!
that’s so awesome – I love stories like yours!
Thanks also, I appreciate it!
Jared,
Yes, I am following my dream! I left a job that I didn’t like, and retired. I am following my passion, and hope to create some kind of job out of that passion! With your encouragement, I am sure I will.
Keep your faith – the world needs good pastors, and you will be one.
Jared,
It’s been a while since we’ve talked, and I know you’ve been busy. I loved this post. Yes, I am living part of my dream. I jumped off of the Corporate Ladder, but I’m still unemployed, which isn’t bad after all!
I miss our weekly coaching sessions, and I sure could use your help about now!! LOL
Hope to talk to you soon.
