Get Off It and Start Your Business

lazyarseBy “it” I mean your lazy bum!  We have a problem in this country.  People are lazy and want everything handed to them.  This occurred to me the other night when I saw one of those commercials about how easy it is to get free money from the government to do pretty much whatever you want.

Sure there are grant programs out there, but what they don’t tell you in that commercial is that you have to put together a grant proposal with a budget.  After turning that in there can be years of red tape to get the money and then use it the way the government wants you to.  I know what I am talking about, because I have worked in the non-profit world and been the recipient of some of those grants.

Why don’t they tell you how hard you are going to have to work to get the free money?  I will tell you exactly why, because Americans are a lazy bunch of people.

Before you start chastising me for being “un-American” I want you to stop for a minute and ask, what country has the highest obesity rate in the world?  Hmmmmm….

The “American Dream” once meant that anyone could start anywhere and make whatever they wanted of their lives.  Now it seems to mean if you buy the right information product, you will suddenly wake up in a 2 million dollar home with a garage full of Jaguars.  COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP!

You still can do anything you want, but it takes work.  Hard work sometimes.  Other times, maybe the hardest thing you have to do is go the right college.  Sure, some people start better than others, and some people are born in a 2 million dollar house with 5 Jags and a nice Trust fund to boot.  But that isn’t the way most of us start out.

Whats the point?

grumpyBy now if you are still reading, you might think I sound like a crotchety old man.  That’s not want I want.  I want this to be an inspiration.  When I started this blog and began to help people build their own businesses I wanted to help people get out of debt, leave their cubicle farms and make a living without eating from the hand of the corporate enslavers.

But being in this industry I have seen the way that people take advantage of the false American Dream and sell people a lie.  I am telling you that dream really is possible, but it takes work.

The things you need to do to make your dream a reality are the following:

  • Form a business plan
  • Develop a Mission Statement
  • Develop a Budget
  • Set Goals
  • Form a Strategy
  • Re-evaluate as Necessary

I will address these one at a time in the following days.  I want to create an action plan that you can follow that will allow you to build a successful business.  I will approach this specifically from an Internet Entrepreneur model, but you will be able to adapt the concepts to fit your own plan.
