Viral Marketing is like Beating up Children

An excellent example of viral marketing. How many hits do you suppose this site gets? Are you going to go see how many five year olds you could beat up? I really wish you would. Beat my score! I dare you!

28

On the topic though, what an excellent example of coming up with a concept that will get traffic! Why does this work? What are some other ideas that would gain popularity simply because its odd? Is this even a decent and acceptable idea?

IPhone and Google could be changing the future

Iphone users account for half the mobile googler population even though the iphone only accounts for 0.4 percent of all mobile handsets.  why is that?  Primarily because of the iphone’s beautiful internet access features.  The article here suggests that over the next several years mobile searches could actually outnumber regular computer searches.

That is something to think about for those of us who are working to earn money online.  We need to utilize social networks and different platforms such as blog tools that easily convert to smaller screens.    Both of these strategies will help us to reach the growing numbers of people who are searching the internet from their mobile devices.  Let’s just hope they aren’t doing it behind the wheel.

Social Networking 101 - a new Social Networking Site

I realize that a lot of Social Networking websites are centered around web content.  Most of the time these are simply ways of promoting online content and talking about cool online content.

These are not always a good place for information.  In fact, far too often I find that people are confused by them.   So, I thought it might be helpful to create a new social network.  The beauty of social networks are that they are created by the people who use them.  I am giving all readers the chance to be a part of building this social network, using it to find useful content and help develop a list of contacts who can help each other out.

Keeping this in mind I developed a social network especially for online business owners in mind.  Click here to join!

When you join, you will be able to build groups, join groups, post links, and find people with a similar interest.

Have fun!

Social Networking 101 - Why Should I twitter

I have been enjoying twitter lately.  What a great social networking idea.  Using your chat client to talk to tons of people at once is cool and productive. twitter.gif

I follow lots of people through their service, and in turn many of them follow me as well.  Some would argue that this is terribly narcissistic, but I find lots of great information this way which I wouldnt otherwise know about.

One of the people I am following has been attending a social networking conference in sunny Florida.  He has been “tweeting” some of the things he has seen and heard.  This is almost as good as being there for a guy who has a thousand other things to do instead.

If you don’t already tweet on twitter, you should get started.  Sign up and follow me, and I will follow you too!

How do I promote my Blog?

There are several important ways to promote your blog. Some of these are simple and fun, others take a little bit of time and practice. As with anything, the things that take a little bit more time are always the most profitable. Having said that, I am going to offer you some ideas beginning with the easiest and moving on to the most time consuming.

Before going into that, Let me address one point. There are many different kinds of blogs. You might be the only writer, or you might be one among many authors. With community blogs, the payoff can be tremendous if each contributor takes a little bit of the responsibility for promotion. Many hands make light work so the old adage goes.

So here are the things you need to do to promote your Blog

1. submit it!

- this might seem like a no brainer, but believe me it goes undone far too often! Here are some places you need to sumit your blog to. The links will open new windows going directly to the submission page.

google yahoo MSN Icerocket

2. be conversant

- People like it when you post on their blogs, and they will return the favor. Take a few minutes a day to peruse the blogs of some like minded bloggers, and post comments on the pages. You will get traffic from people who see your comments and from the site owners as well.

Along the same lines. It is appalling to me how few bloggers actually use an RSS feed. Let me assure you, none of the successful bloggers are among them. You can get an rss feed reader from any of the major internet portals like google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Feedreader is a nice little program like outlook that does it all for you. Whatever you do, you must use a feed reader to save time and follow relevant blogs like yours.

3. Post often

This blog is updated far too infrequently to serve as a model for that. Daily posts are almost essential, every other day at minimum to maintain good return traffic. It doesn’t have to be much, but it needs to be frequent.

4. Use Feedburner

Feedburner will turn your rss feeds into a whole new animal. You can promote feeds through their free service and you can see your subscriptions and the frequency with which your subscribers come back to your site. You can even include paid advertisements in your feeds!

5. Be a social networker!

This is really becoming the most significant way you can promote your blog. There are a handful of social networking websites similar to myspace and facebook that will get you a great deal of attention. You must join these:

Digg Stumbleupon MIxx Technorati

There are others you could join and use, but these will be enough to get you started and then maybe you can look for others. Some other items of interest can be found on the resources page, but I think the information you have here will be enough to get you going. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oh, and one more thing. If you have your own wordpress blog, you need to get a plugin that will do what this blog does. You see the links to these pages at the bottom of down there? Click them to submit this entry to the site of your choice. Handy isn’t it?

Social Networking 101 Can you Digg It?

Absolutely you can! And if you digg it well, lots of other people can too!

digg.gif

Digg, is the social networking site we are inspecting today. This is a place similar to stumble upon. Which we covered a couple of days ago. Older than stumble, and perhaps waning a little bit in popularity, it is no less important. With Digg, you submit content you like with just a couple of clicks and immediately it gets put on the list of sites people start to see.

If the content is really good, and you write a compelling review, folks will visit your website, talk about it and “digg it.” This means they will vote that they like it. The number of “diggs” an item has is the number of people who liked it and this also determines the kind of repeat traffic you can expect.

When I digg items, I always get some traffic right away; usually 10 to 20 visitors in the first hour or so after putting them in the network. No blog can tell you exactly how to do this, so figure it out! take a few minutes, sign up now and start digging!

If you want to get started fast click this digg button right here

Social Networking 101 looks at Stumble Upon

su.gif

So as far as places to promote yourself online, let’s first talk about Stumble upon. They can be found at - you guessed it - stumbleupon.com

To be completely honest, it is pretty much pointless to attempt to market anything online without these guys these days. Yes I just said these way to much, but that makes me cool.

The first thing you need to do is create an account, and then grab the coolest toolbar in the world for firefox. This tool bar will let you submit stuff to SU, and also see things in categories you are interested in.

su2.gif

How do I use it? You ask a fascinating Question, let me tell you. I submit my own posts when they seem “submit worthy.” Please Note - they are not all in this category. Not everything you write is worth blasting the world with. there is such a thing as wearing out a welcome. Other than that, I also use it to peruse interesting items online and often find topics worth posting on one of my blogs.

How can you use it? Well primarily the same way! Submit your junk! Post something new? Tell the world.

Please Please Please Remember this - It makes a nice movie, but in the real world, if you build it, you will starve to death, because they will not come unless you promote it.

Questions? thoughts? additions?
